The short version. Maitora does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no trackers, and no data-collecting third-party SDKs. The app has no servers of its own — everything you create and every number it tracks stays on your device, under your control. Deleting the app removes that data.
The app uses the internet for a small number of optional things, all of which you turn on yourself. First, a one-time download of the natural narration voice (free for everyone), which sends none of your data — it is just a request for a public model file, and after it the voice runs entirely on your phone. Second, an optional backup: on iPhone, Maitora Pro members can switch on iCloud backup, which keeps a copy in your own iCloud account; on Android, a backup is a single file that you save wherever you choose. In every case the copy is yours, it never reaches us, and we have no way to see it. Everything else is fully offline. See "Natural narration voice", "Backup" and "On-device AI" below.
The sections below explain this in full because the App Store requires a complete policy for any app that touches Apple Health.

Information the app accesses (only with your permission)
Maitora works entirely on your device. With your explicit permission, it can use the following — each is optional and off until you turn it on:
Apple Health (iPhone)
Health logging is opt-in and disabled by default. If you enable it, Maitora asks once for permission and then:
- Writes mindful minutes — when you finish a session, the time you spent is saved to Apple Health as a Mindful Minutes (mindful session) entry, tagged with a private identifier so the app can recognise its own entries.
- Reads your mindful minutes for today — only to show your daily progress inside the app.
- Mood (iOS 18 and later, optional) — if you also enable the post-session mood check-in, Maitora writes your chosen feeling to Apple Health as a State of Mind entry and reads back your recent entries to draw the 30-day mood trend chart in the app.
Health data is stored by Apple in the Health app on your device and is governed by Apple's privacy protections. Maitora never transmits your Health data off the device, never uses it for advertising or marketing, and never shares it with any third party. It is used only to display your progress and trends inside the app.
You can review or turn off Maitora's access at any time in the Health app → Sharing → Apps → Maitora, or by turning the toggles off in Maitora's Settings. (Like all apps, Maitora cannot revoke its own Health access — that switch lives in the Health app.)
Health Connect (Android)
Health logging is opt-in and disabled by default. If you enable it in Settings → Health & data, Maitora asks for permission through Health Connect and then:
- Writes mindfulness sessions — when you finish a practice, its start time, end time and type are saved to Health Connect as a Mindfulness Session.
- Reads your mindfulness sessions for today — only to show your daily mindful total inside the app.
These are the only two health data types Maitora touches on Android. Unlike the iPhone version, it does not write your mood anywhere — your post-session check-ins stay inside the app on your device.
Health Connect is a local store on your own phone. Maitora never transmits your health data off the device, never uses it for advertising or marketing, and never shares it with any third party. You can review or revoke Maitora's access at any time in Health Connect → App permissions → Maitora, or by turning the setting off in the app.
Photos and videos
When you import a video or build a montage, you pick the photos and videos yourself through your phone's standard system picker (Apple's on iPhone, Android's photo picker on Android), which hands the app only the items you chose. The media you choose is copied into Maitora's private on-device storage so it can play your personal mind movie. These files stay in that private storage. They are never sent to us; the only copy that can leave your device is one you choose to make yourself (see "Backup" below).
Microphone and speech recognition
If you tap Dictate while writing a journal entry, Maitora asks for microphone and speech-recognition permission and turns your speech into text so you can speak an entry instead of typing it.
This runs entirely on your device. On iPhone, Maitora requires Apple's on-device recognition, and the Dictate button is hidden on any device that cannot do it — we never fall back to Apple's server-based recognition. On Android, Maitora asks the system recogniser for offline recognition specifically; a phone with no offline speech model reports an error rather than quietly sending your voice to a server.
Your voice is not recorded to a file, not stored, and not sent anywhere by Maitora; only the text you end up with is saved, as part of your journal entry. The microphone is used only while you are dictating.
Face ID / Touch ID / fingerprint
If you switch on the optional journal lock, Maitora asks Face ID or Touch ID on iPhone, or your fingerprint or face on Android, to unlock your gratitude journal.
This uses the operating system's own authentication, which answers only "yes" or "no" — Maitora never sees, receives, or stores your face, fingerprint, or passcode. That data stays in secure hardware on the device (Apple's Secure Enclave, or the Android equivalent) and is never available to the app.
Apple Music (iPhone)
If you choose a song from your Apple Music library as a session's background music, Maitora asks for permission to your media library so it can show Apple's standard song picker and play the track you pick.
Maitora reads only what it needs to show that picker and remember your choice (the song's title, artist, and its identifier on your device). Nothing about your library or listening is sent to us; the track plays through Apple's own music player.
The Android version has no music import and never asks for access to your music library.
Notifications
If you enable reminders, Maitora schedules local notifications (a daily nudge and an optional wind-down or streak reminder) on your device. These are generated on-device by the operating system's own local scheduler; there is no push server, no Maitora server, and no reminder data is sent over the internet.
Natural narration voice (optional download)
Maitora can read guided meditations, sleep stories, and affirmations aloud in a natural-sounding on-device voice ("Heart"). This voice is optional and free for everyone; Apple's built-in system voices, which need no download, are also available.
The first time you choose to use the natural voice, Maitora downloads its voice model — a public file, the same for every user, that contains no personal information — over a secure (HTTPS) connection and stores it on your device. This one-time download requests a public model file and nothing else: no account, no device identifier, and none of your sessions, journal, mood, or Health data is ever sent.
Once the voice is downloaded it runs entirely on your device. The text it speaks — your affirmations, prompts, and any words drawn from your own journal — is turned into audio on-device and never leaves your phone.
Backup (optional)
On iPhone. Maitora Pro members can switch on iCloud backup. When it is on, Maitora keeps a copy of your app data — your movies and the photos/videos in them, your journal, your session history, and your settings — in your own iCloud account, in the private storage area Apple gives the app. iOS syncs and encrypts it as part of iCloud, so signing in to iCloud on a new iPhone lets you restore everything.
Restoring a backup is free for everyone — a membership is only needed to keep one up to date. So that Maitora can offer this when you set up a new iPhone, it checks whether a backup exists in your own iCloud container (it reads only the date that folder was last written; nothing is downloaded until you ask to restore, and nothing is sent to us). If you never switch iCloud backup on, there is nothing there to find.
To be exact about who holds what:
- The copy goes to Apple's iCloud, under your Apple Account — not to Maitora, and not to any server of ours. We have no account system and no way to see, read, or retrieve it. Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy govern that storage.
- It is off until you turn it on, and turning it off stops any further copies.
- It contains the same data listed under "Information stored on your device", minus a few device-local items (which iPhone last synced, and Mitra's small private note of which practices have helped you, which never leaves the device).
- You can delete it at any time in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage, the same way you manage any app's iCloud data.
On Android. There is no Maitora cloud, and we do not operate one. A backup is a single file you save yourself: tap "Back Up Now" and Android's own file picker asks where to put it. Maitora Pro adds automatic backups to a folder you choose; restoring is free for everyone, always.
Because you choose the folder, you also choose who holds it. If you pick a folder on the phone, the file never leaves the phone. If you pick a folder belonging to a cloud storage app you already use, that app syncs it under your own account, on its own terms — Maitora simply writes a file where you pointed it. Either way the copy is yours, nothing is sent to us, and we have no way to see or retrieve it.
The file contains the same data listed under "Information stored on your device", minus a few device-local items — including Mitra's small private note of which practices have helped you, which is deliberately excluded so that restoring onto a new phone never carries one device's conversations onto another. Videos in your mind movies are excluded unless you switch that on, to keep the file small. You can delete the file at any time, like any other file on your phone.
On-device AI
On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, Maitora uses Apple's built-in on-device model to write guided meditations, sleep stories, affirmations and Mitra's gentle replies. There is nothing to download and no network involved: what you type to Mitra and the words the app writes for you never leave the device. There is no cloud AI and no server.
iPhones without Apple Intelligence use Maitora's built-in, hand-written guidance — also fully on-device and fully offline.
On Android, every meditation, sleep story and affirmation you hear comes from Maitora's built-in library of over 1,300 hand-written scripts, shipped inside the app. No text is generated on Android, and nothing you type or write is sent anywhere — there is no cloud AI, no server, and no model that reads your journal.
Information stored on your device
The following is kept locally on your device (and, if you make a backup, copied into that backup — see above):
- Your movies and montages, and the photos/videos in them.
- Your journal entries (and any photos in them).
- Your session history and the statistics derived from it — session count, total time, daily goal, and streaks.
- Your settings and preferences.
- Your mood check-in selections (on iPhone these are also written to Apple Health if you enabled that; on Android they never leave the app).
- Meditations, sleep stories and affirmations you chose to save.
- A small private note Mitra keeps of which practices you turned to and whether they helped. Your conversations themselves are not saved — a chat exists only while it is open, and that note records the practice, not your words.
This data is shared on your device only with the Maitora home-screen widget, and on iPhone it is mirrored to your paired Apple Watch over Apple's encrypted device-to-device connection so the watch can act as a remote. (There is no Wear OS companion on Android.) None of it is sent to the developer or to any external service — a backup, if you make one, goes to your own iCloud account or to a location you picked yourself, not to us.
Data collection and sharing
- Collected by the developer: none.
- Shared with third parties: none.
- Sold: never.
- Used for tracking or advertising: never.
- Analytics / crash reporting: none.
- Microphone / voice: no recording is kept or sent — dictation is transcribed on-device and only the resulting text is saved.
- Biometrics: never received by the app — Face ID / Touch ID answers only "yes" or "no", and the data stays in Apple's Secure Enclave.
- Network use: optional things you switch on yourself — a one-time HTTPS download of a public file (the natural narration voice model), which transmits none of your data; and, if you use backup, a copy written to your own iCloud account by iOS, or on Android to a file location you choose. None of it sends anything to us, and there is no Maitora server.
In App Store terms, Maitora is a "Data Not Collected" app. In Google Play's Data Safety terms, Maitora collects no data and shares no data.
Purchases of Maitora Pro are handled entirely by the app store you bought from — Apple through the App Store / StoreKit, or Google through Google Play Billing. Maitora never sees your payment details; it only learns from the store whether your membership is active. Their handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and Google's Privacy Policy.
Data retention and deletion
Because all of your data lives on your device, you are in control of it:
- Deleting Maitora removes the app's movies, journal, history, and settings from your device.
- Health entries written by Maitora remain in your phone's health store until you delete them there — on iPhone in Health app → Browse → Mindfulness / State of Mind, on Android in Health Connect → Data and access → Mindfulness.
- You can clear your in-app history at any time in Settings → Health & data, and clear Mitra's note of which practices helped you with one tap on the same screen.
- If you switched on iCloud backup, the copy in your own iCloud account is removed in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage. On Android, a backup is an ordinary file — delete it wherever you saved it.
Security
Your data stays within your device's app sandbox and its system health store (Apple Health, or Health Connect on Android), protected by operating-system security and your device passcode or biometrics. The journal can be locked behind Face ID, Touch ID, or your fingerprint or face on Android. On iPhone the watch connection uses Apple's encrypted WatchConnectivity transport. An iCloud backup, if you switch it on, is stored and encrypted by Apple as part of your own iCloud account; an Android backup file is protected by wherever you chose to keep it.
Children's privacy
Maitora is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone — it collects no personal data at all.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at the same location with a new effective date. Material changes will be reflected in an app update.
